bare bones basics 4 NorCal coast

I have a CA fishing license so I can crab from kayaks.

I am interested in perhaps trying some hand line fishing, often during coastal camping trips to see if I can catch some fresh fish to expand on my dinner options. Usually northern California coastal waters.

I am more of a touring guy, so have touring/sea kayaks, not traditional SOT fishing rigs. And I am looking to keep this bare bones - so more along the line of drop line, not fishing rods.

What gear and methods should I try? What fish should I be targeting (rock fish, halibut, etc.)?

Thanks.

Right in your neck of the waters.

yeah, but
Bit embarrassed to post there, as they (as with most groups) seem to be very equipment focused, where I really want to stay minimalistic.
