Garmin Etrex 30

Hello!

I had a Garmin Etrex Vista HCX which recently died because of condensed moisture (it was enough to turn into liquid and screw the circuitry).

This happened, i believe, because i had to change the batteries every day during raids. Of course i didnt change them on the water, but the moisture in the environment was enough. I’ve noticed that the battery compartment of the Etrex Vista HCX had holes that lead to the inner part of the device, and that was how the moisture got in there.

Two questions:

  1. Does anyone have any insight about the etrex 30?

  2. Does it have the same condensation problem? IE: Is the battery compartment connected to the inside? Or is it sealed?

    TIA.

Etrex 20
I have an Etrex 20 and there is a spot for the microSD card right under the batteries. I would therefore say that if water entered through the battery compartment it could reach the internal electronics. I have not had an problems with mine though. I routinely mount it to the deck of my kayak where it gets wet and also run water over it after every outing to rinse the saltwater off of it.
