atlanta area paddling

I’m looking for intermediate/advanced paddlers to paddle on the Chattahoochee, Lake Lanier, Lake Joccassee etc. Interested in at least 8 miles and options for challenging conditions. Also interested in Ga coast, espec St.Simon’s etc. Seems like actual sea kayakers are becoming scarce. What’s happening?

Have you tried the Atlanta Canoe Club? Despite the name they have kayakers there with long pointy boats. Or have you tried Lanier Canoe and Kayak club…they’re racers but we’re a seakayak club with some racers. They might be sea kayak orientated. . For SC and GA coastal paddles I use the Charleston Kayak meet up group. There is also the Lowcountry paddlers…

The Florida Sea Kayak Association, FISK-ME on Meet Up is likely too far away and most of our members don’t get up that way. by the way 8 miles isn’t that far in a seakayak. We usually plan for 10 to 16 in a level 3 paddle.

For coastal Georgia seek out the knowledge of these guys…http://www.seakayakgeorgia.com/

Thanks much, Overstreet. I hadn’t explored the Atlanta Canoe Club or the Lanier Group. I actually prefer longer trips. Are you in the Atl area or in Florida?

Jacksonville, Fl

The Greenville ,SC Kayak MeetUp group is very active also.

You want longer? You need to see our ABIS paddles. One is Cumberland Island, 42 miles, day paddle. https://meetup.com/Florida-Sea-Kayak-Meetup/events/236633150/ Most of them fall under the heading of “Advanced” paddles.

Rick, I didn’t realize who you are when I replied initially. You know the serious paddlers over here I think , but we have a few who love distance that you may not.
If you are headed this way, I can post a Meetup for you.
I hope you are doing well.

The shop would list paddles for the masses, short paddles. But there is always a sub group of more experienced paddlers that hangout or get support from those specialty shops.
