Paddling New Orleans and points south

Can anyone recommend interesting paddling in or near New Orleans? Where to start, right? Going to be there later this month. The area south of town on the river on the way to Port Sulfur, Empire and the mouth of the Mississippi looks amazing. The areas south of Metairie also seem promising: The Salvador and Timken Wildlife Management Areas and the Jean Lafitte Park and Preserve. Also looking for a paddling partner while in N.O.

I live in Mandeville on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain. Cane Bayou (also known as Big Branch) is a popular paddling place in my area. Another nice paddle is up the Bogue Falaya River from Columbia Street Landing in Covington. Yet another is up Bayou BonFouca from Heritage Park in Slidell. I don’t paddle much south of the Lake. Will you be in a canoe or a kayak? If kayak, the lakeshore east or west of the mouth of Bayou Lacombe is also nice. there are more, but these are the prettiest IMHO.

A belated thank you, davavd.
