Little Talbot Island,Florida info ?

We are interested in the area around Little talbot Island for kayaking and are wondering if any one who knows the area can elaborate.

It looks good , but can we get a half dozen days of paddling ten or more miles per day with out doing the same area twice?

Check out these websites
Here is nice website for areas around where you are looking to stay at. http://www.paddlethetimucuan.net/routes.htm

I don’t know who these people are but they have created a very nice collection of trip reports in the North Florda area. http://www.everytrail.com/my_trips.php?user_id=233228

You might want to drive up to Fernandina and launch at the 14th street boat ramp and paddle over to Cumberland Island. http://www.nps.gov/cuis/index.htm

Thanks Ken
We will check that out.

We have already paddled to Cumberland Island

Myrtle-Simpson
Many choices in this area (also see FSKA’s (Jax) website - http://www.clubkayak.com/fska).

One of my favorites is around Little Talbot, it’s short (13 miles), and, depending on conditions, allows a choice of ‘return’ - via ocean (around L Talbot) or inside creek (around ‘Long I’). (depending on your skills, if the swell is 1-2’, it’s safe on the outside - the most ‘difficult’ part is going out from Nassau Sound & coming back in at Fort George inlet (against a moderate tide)).

  1. go ‘clockwise’ around Little Talbot I:
  2. start from from under A1A bridge (Alamacani) or from Huguenot Park (nominal fee to get in, $1 if before 10am).
  3. ***** START ABOUT 1 HOUR BEFORE HIGH [Simpson Creek station] - in order to be at the ‘height of land’ on Myrtle near high tide (if you ‘miss’ it, you will ‘sit’ for a couple hours).
  4. return via Simpson Creek or the ocean.

(for a ‘route’ map showing the ‘ocean’ choice - see http://tinyurl.com/7btpt72, then click on the arrow to the right of ‘Myrtl_13’ (Simpson Creek is to the west of Myrtle)

Thanks Ken and nice to meet ya. I noticed that when I followed your link I don’t see the map showing each trip that I see when I log on. Shame too, it makes it much easier to navigate them. I’ll work on that.

Jack, I responded to your thread about Favor-Dykes. Tons of trails around here, you could spend a couple days just in the Four Creeks area and not see all of it. Let me know if I can help.
