That canoe was a 1960something heavy a$$ monster... My boat, your boat & Country_Girls boat (while technically mine) was a grand total of 120lbs... I agree that the length multiplied times the span of the racks and calculating wind drag can play into factor. But, if it is a kayak, you won't have the open hull which makes more of a wind current causing a lifting force.
