My solo run? That was a virtual run on the General Clinton canoe regatta, I did it C1 in a grb classic xl and it took me just over 10 hrs, unsupported including a stop for lunch and a couple potty breaks. Start is on Otsego lake in Cooperstown and finish is in Bainbridge on the Susquehanna River, all downstream
OK, I’m familiar with the regatta. Down stream is just a nice plus. I’m at the other end. Over the years, I’ve explored the Bay and every accessible and navigable tributaries from Sparrows Point north to below the PA Route 30 Bridge in York. I love the expansiveness of the Bay, but the Susquehanna is a real beauty. My nephew just registered my kayak, because some launch areas on the river apparently require permits. I hate permits. It’s water, I’m not using it as a bathroom, or drinking it. I’m not hurting it. I just want to paddle on it. Thanks for the info, and maybe we’ll cross paths. Hope the new year is a good one.
You too!
I just started kayaking in early May, and only managed to get out once a week between then and Veteran’s Day, which was the last time I paddled. Not sure how many times that equates to, but I know it wasn’t nearly as many times as most others here. Still, I have had fun, and I hope to do more when it warms up in the spring.
NHTrucker, I had been kayaking for about 15 years, but joined the forum around that time. What type of kayaking do you enjoy?
Mostly sea kayaking. I do enjoy calm ponds and lakes, and sections of river where I can paddle against the current, too, but most of my paddling has been on the coast because I find the ocean to be the most fun. I’d still be out doing it now if I had a drysuit, but it just isn’t in the budget for the foreseeable future.
I’m too far from the ocean to have been able to enjoy that. My playground is the upper Chesapeake Bay and tributaries. I mostly love the active current and the openness. Welcome to the show.
