Yup … I was wrong sorry 22’ .
Holy shipwreck, Batman!
I had no idea the surf was that rough under the span!

Pretty scary pics…
It must suck to know your boat is just lying there on the bottom for the rest of your life. ;-/

Could be worse
I have a kayak lying on the bottom off the jetty in Mission Bay, San Diego. I am glad I am not lying there also.
$.02
My $.02 is to take some open bay classes from SeaTrek that involve rescues in the conditions you'll be paddling in. The friends you've been talking to can get you killed. Pick more knowledgable friends.
People can die out there. I used to work for CCK when it was at Pt. Richmond and have taken classes by SeaTrek,CCK and Cal Adventures.
Basically ask yourself, "would I be willing to PRACTICE rescues in those conditions?"...if not, don't go.

Golden Gate Symposium
This may be a great place to learn about the area waters.

Almost a year later and
I still haven’t done it.
I do know a lot more about the tides and currents in the SF Bay, though. One lesson I learned the hard way after paddling from the South Beach Boat Club (S. of AT&T) to Aquatic Park and back without checking them first. ;-/
Still not ready for the Golden Gate, though.
