Hopefully the moderators can move this post to Bicker and Banter where it belongs.
For sure. The new Prez at CNN says the network will move back toward the middle. If that happens it’ll be interesting to see what happens to their ratings.
Few Oak leaves, but lots of immature acorns falling here.
Very funny (not). Someone flagged the post you quoted.
Probably a free speech advocate
Attack? I recognized two distinct revenue models, but didn’t intend to attack either one. In fact, I specifically said with regard to the sponsored content model:
“It’s neither good nor bad, just different…”
I think the entire topic should be shelved. It has nothing to do with paddling and the entire reason for talking about media propaganda is because this topic is laced with propaganda.
That’s interesting. I saw nothing in it to merit flagging.
That’s why I quit commenting, well that is until I saw the flagging, then I had to comment. Ignore it or refute it, but don’t try to police someone’s expression.
Yeah I earned a nice badge for reading the community guidelines and I didn’t see anything in there to flag a video relevant to the current discussion.
I don’t need someone’s chart to tell me who’s bias.
I can watch and read both sides myself.
Over the past few days I have had several posts to this thread flagged by enough members here to cause the admins. to block the posts as invisible as the community feels they were inappropriate as offensive, abusive, or violation of community guidelines.
I never have posted offensive or abusive subjects and as far as community guidelines I didn’t start the thread and there was even another spin off thread containing the same material that was welcomed. Most paddlers here seem to be also interested in the environment and things that will affect the waters and wildlife we all enjoy sharing the water with. As such a conversation surrounding the subject of climate change seems to be squarely inside the community guidelines. I even posted twice thanking the forum for providing informative information in support of their viewpoints on the subject.
It is pretty clear I didn’t agree with everything everyone posted but I 100% feel they have the right to post it. After all that is what freedom of speech is about. It is not a freedom in many of the places mentioned in this thread. It is American and our first amendment for a reason.
I don’t know or care to know who flagged my posts but I didn’t come here to look over my shoulder constantly or to purposely offend others to the point they want to ban my words. To the forums credit the posts were restored as the reviewer found nothing out of line and no reprimand was issued even that I was close to crossing a line.
I’m an admin on another forum on a totally different subject and a couple times I took action when offensive and abusive became a problem. So I understand that people don’t always agree. I hate the idea of cancel culture almost more than anything I can think of. Cancel culture was something unknown to me until the last half dozen years. Now it is almost a way of life.
I don’t care to take part in cancel culture and will be retracting from threads like this in the future. It is a bit sad if you truly feel a problem such as this is the biggest thing affecting mankind, but not big enough to let a bunch of likeminded people butt heads a little.
Now we can go back to debating are rec-kayaks really more than pool toys.
I don’t deny the earth hasn’t been warming. The earth will explode before anyone evrn agrees there is a solution. Thats why there’s war, because people can’t agree. Maybe somebody on the forum will come up with an idea.
I totally agree about cancel culture. The sad thing is that cancelling others and not allowing for disagreement is a great way to discredit your own argument. Why would I believe your argument if it can’t withstand disagreement and skepticism?
Talk about thread spread!!!
I never thought a question about an observation of one desert species would expand this much. Nonetheless, people added lots of good comments and citations, which I appreciate.
Because I had inadvertently set my Preferences to allow e-mail notice whenever a reply came in, I came back from paddling to find almost 35 new posts. I have turned off that setting, mainly because I need to pay attention to other e-mails. But I’ll still check in here.
For those who haven’t checked their settings and don’t like some posts, perhaps you should see if you can make them invisible to you but not everybody else. I thought the Flag feature was intended for posts meant to be offensive, or those giving advice on how to do illegal things. NOT to remove posts of a different opinion than your own.
Unfortunately, the software treats a flag as instant censorship and hides the comment regardless of content.
So very disappointing. It’s one thing to refuse to hear different opinions, but quite another to deny others that same opportunity … or, more importantly, that same right.
I appreciate you saying this. I think it was a good discussion for much of it, and any discussion that causes people to think a bit more deeply, I count as successful. I feel I have a better understanding of your point of view than I had prior, and would say that about some of the other participants as well.
Happy paddling!
I didn’t see everything posted today. Been packing for a couple nights backpacking in the mountains of NC after racing sailboats at the club tomorrow. I think flagging isn’t a good idea. I don’t know if I saw what was flagged, but I’ve read what Bud has posted. I haven’t seen anything to flag. I have yet to flag anything on the site, really don’t think it is right. I would paddle with him if we ever got the chance. Who am I to judge. It would have to be something hateful or threatening. I quit posting and signed off yesterday. I didn’t have anything more to say until now. Sorry to read this Bud.
Good. Check back in a couple of days.
And the people I wouldn’t paddle with on here are long gone.
There are many here I’ll never have the skill or physical ability to paddle with and that’s fine. I admire their skill.
