No, not really, because even with the
same amount of V, the Independence and the ME have a huge difference in rocker. That rocker makes a difference in what happens as the hull tips or is leaned. Also, by raising the bow and stern above some of the turbulence, a ww canoe is less susceptible.
One of the more interesting comparisons would be the Independence versus the ME on Lake Michigan, in irregular chop or rollers. I expect the Independence might do better, because its ends will grasp the wave pattern and help it stay on course. I’ve had ww canoes on the lakes or ocean, and their hulls and rocker are a disadvantage in some ways. First time I had my Hahn c-1 on a choppy lake, it about scared me out of my sprayskirt.

When did you last paddle an Independence?
I’m curious because, while my Indy does not carve the inside circle as easily as my Outrage does, it does carve the inside better than my Wildfire, Magic or Osprey.
Maybe yours was defective?
