Western Red Cedar is best
I found it at a local lumberyard in pieces that were for flooring. So I had to glue up two pieces to make the thickness. In some places you can find it big enough. Forget the big box stores.
You can make it out of pine or redwood. Follow the instructions on how to select a piece.
Doesn’t take master woodworking skills nor tools, BTW. Just easier that way.
I made most of mine with a saw and a Stanley Surform 10" plane tool with flat and curved blades.
