Camp Stoves on Airplanes

Dumb question
If you want to avoid the hassle, why not buy a fresh MSR bottle for the trip? Leave the price tag on it as well. No residual fuel to worry about or clean out.

"Cooking fuel" is -explicitly- prohibited by the TSA. Note that the other stuff you mentioned is also prohibited.

From the tsa link provided earlier:

Flammable Items
Aerosol - (any except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities) No No
Fuels - (including cooking fuels and any flammable liquid fuel) No No
Gasoline No No
Gas Torches No No
Lighter Fluid No No
Lighters * No * No *
Strike-anywhere Matches ** No ** No **
Turpentine and Paint Thinner No No
Realistic Replicas of Incendiaries No No

Keep in mind that we are talking about things free of fuel (also obvious by reading the posts).

You could do that too

You certainly could buy a fuel bottle at the destination. I didn’t mention it because its should have been obvious.
