On welfare, ask if they have a computer phone with Android. Access Google Maps for Ernie's Lounge in Bangor n head out.

Amazing. Not worth a dam in Okiefenokie but for Ernie's it's a gas.

Was chosen because eliminating the button deck produced room for a larger screen ?

Almost as large as the S5 I’m holding.

Garmin products are great.
Why are you looking at land-based GPS when Garmin can sell you a fantastic water-based GPS map one with a micro card that gives you the entire US? Have one and it works very well. Suggest the color map version.

the 600 is not land based
I have marine charts in my 450. And yep it gets wet. But it swims poorly.

on the 450
no problems with finger pressure accuracy lower than push button machine accuracy ?

600 and touch
I have no problem with the touch screen… Water doesn’t seem to effect the touch screen operation as I was in the rain kayaking out into Georgian Bay this past summer and it worked as normal. Not sure if the land based post was directed at me but the Montana 600 is a trail based handheld although its the big one in the Garmin line up.

Had a Garmin 400 for several years. I
used it for the five years that I was in Search and Rescue. Used it on many hiking, biking and canoe trips with no water problems. I do a lot of trip planning on Google Earth and then down load the tracks and way-points to BaseCamp and my GPS. I use it when traveling in the mountains in my Jeep since it is easy to get lost on the many logging roads. I just keep the tracks on so I can easily find my way home. The handheld GPS can be used the same as the car GPS only it doesn’t talk. Love being able to scroll the map. Can’t go wrong with a GPS.
