One little
fact the Canunut did not mention was that the insides of my thighs were black, blue, and bleeding from practicing our reentries. we spent hours (well spent in hind sight) learning to get back in. We would be out in Lake Norman and get popped out of a Comp Cruiser by Bass boat. Light to medium waves and we would get back in.
canoe re-entry
I had an interresting experience this summer . I have two daughters, one thin and one fat (not to mince words) and the three of us paddled across a small bay in our kevlor canoe, to the beach. The weather wuas breezy but fairly calwm. For the return trip my larger daughter wanted to sit up front, so the the girls swapped places. Despite assurances that we were not going to tip over, within five minutes, over we went. We were not far from shore but I was suprised at how hard it was to get back to the beach. The tow row broke and the canoe swung all over the place. I leaned quite a lot that day. Check your equipment. Don’t put the largest person in the front. Have practise rescues, et al. with my children …I paddled the canoe back alone (which was lovely) while my kids walked home.
