Canoe with a kayak paddle

fellow who sold me my second kayak
and was expert in both canoe and kayak used to say twice the man half the paddle----usually just after he rolled his canoe—with a single blade paddle. I’ve seen other people do it since, but the first time I was impressed.

I tried a kayak paddle when I first
went solo, but now, even on lakes, I do not find it as useful as a single blade. I spend a lot of time messing with my paddle, and learning new strokes. I have my ‘mojo’ going now with mixing strokes and I truly love the control and power of the single blade. I like using the Indian and Canadian strokes to break up the lake paddling. And, I just learned some better moving water strokes.

If the kayak paddle works for you on lakes and feels good, use it. But, don’t give up your single blade work-it’s a beautiful thang!

you got it gal
expand your horizons!
