Car Topping Canoe with Tumblehome

I say if it works for you…
then go for it.

Just for the record, though (and to see how long we can keep this minor sparring going), I am a short dumpy weak guy who has managed to load my solo canoes all by myself over those huge 2-inch load stops for quite a few years now. Oh, and that’s on a mini-van, even. I personally haven’t had the tumblehome problem on my boats, and usually keep the brackets on the outside of the gunwhales. But I have used the “turned-around” load stops on occasion when loading a friends boat that has more tumblehome and it did not seem to be a big deal.

how about
wrapping and taping some foam on the rail next to the brackets? This would raise your canoe, cushion the gunwales, and make everybody happy, if indeed the yak rack has a rail…I just have utility racks on my truck, and loop the strap around the racks/wood outriggers on both sides of the canoes.

Okay, I’ll settle for a Darwin award…
