ever install a tow hitch?

All true. Plus, if you save the receipt
as proof of their installation, when the hitch comes off at 75 mph and your trailer kills the driver behind you, you can bring the installer to court.

Or at least go over and give him a fat lip or something.

I decided to let U-hual do it for me

after a $10 off coupon they are going to charge me $20 to put it on. So i am going to go by there monday after work. so if you all see a honda civic with a boat on top (it might be either a whitewater boat or a solo canoe) and a bike in the back thats me. thanks for all of the help...

Then you should have gone to another one
Their guys around here are all well trained.

Might be a primo job in your area, not
in mine. They already had the bumper foam off. Besides, I taught them something. Good day. Basically, Uhaul sucks, there rentals suck. If I need expert hitch installation, I go to an expert, Trailer Wheel and Frame.

Watch closely
UHaul is the Wal Mart of trailer stuff. Some aren’t much good.

Piece of cake, but maybe rusty…
Spray on some rust solvement like BP into the nuts in the frame.

Let that work in for a couple

of days before doing the hitch.

If it’s class 1, you can put the 4 bolts in with

no problem. Don’t forget to wire up a trailer

light plug, just in case you want to pull something.

Safety reminder
When drilling the frame from underneath be sure to wear eye protection. Drill shavings are HOT and they will burn the S#it out of you. And it’s no fun having a China-men trying to dig steel shards out of your eye while your head is clamped in a fancy vise. Trust me on this.

Wish i had protection on my keyboard!
… coffee protection that is! It’s not funny … but it is the way you said it!

Just installed one,…
2 weeks ago I installed my first hitch on a Chevy van. It was made to fit, just 6 beefy bolts and done. The wireing harness just snapped into the excisting connectors,…cake. I recomend etrailer.com, they even paid the shipping.:>)

You can do it.
I have put on lots over the years. My last class III was put on my Jeep at U-haul, although I could have done it with no drilling. I have a small 4’x7’ trailer for my mower, but have used it mostly for tieing my dog while camping or checking into motels on the way to races. Rescued many stuck friends too! Thinking about a rack extension mounted from the reciever to carry 21’ boat.

me 2.
A U-haul here in Wichita once really messed up a simple tow hook install.

It can go either way
Paying minimum wage guys to do things for you can get pretty bad. I’ve had to give orders to the “professional” installers and read the directions to them, since they wouldn’t read them.

Or you can be immeasurably better off letting someone else do it.

Read the on-line blurb for YOUR hitch. If the car is new and you use the bolts already in the holes and it says it’s an easy install (or a 20 minute install) go for it.
