Gator’s have very small brains.
Cool Picture Jack
That one looks like a very large one to me. I would be tempted to turn around and let it do whatever it wanted to do as long as it did not involve me. We have a few in my area but the only ones I have seen are the semi-tame one at the battleship and a baby I chased across my back yard.
Happy Paddling,
Mark
I’ve heard them many times
But only once did I see one floating on the surface in the middle of the channel where I was padding. As I approached it sank down and I paddled over where it diappeared without a problem.
I did see one swimming along by the bank where I launch my kayak one morning which gave me pause for thought but then driving to work most days can also be hazardous.
On the opposite side of the lake where my US house is built is a large villa with a water slide at the end of the garden going straight into the lake, now that would make me think twice!
Thanks…
for all of your good responses, advice and experiences regarding encountering alligators during paddling outings. This novice paddler greatly appreciates them all!
If you really want to see some gators,
paddle the Myakka near Sarasota. 6" to 14’???
10 footers are a dime a dozen.
Especially on those bars
at the outfall of the lower Myakka lake.
They are lined up side by side like a picket fence.
We were just talking a little while ago about adding the Myakka to our 07 florida trip.
We haven’t been there in a couple of years.
Cheers,
JackL
If farther west and can’t get to Florida
anywhere in S. Louisiana is good for gator watching, or come to Houston and I’ll take you to gator central, Sheldon Lake, a 1000 acre lake and wildlife management area in the middle of an urban industrial area…great birding and big gators.
