Fish oil , Omega 3

@String. Glad you’re in the care of a good sports doctor who wants you on a protocol of natural Omega 3 fish oil. Fingers crossed that it helps you.

Glucosamine chondroitin can be very positive, but you need to take it for a while for its full benefits. http://www.livestrong.com/article/220835-what-are-the-pros-cons-of-taking-osteo-bi-flex/ I started using BiFlex over ten years ago after a leg fracture messed up my knee and still take it. No aches, pains, or joint stiffness so maybe it works.

I took fish oil for years. It was prescribed by my doctor after she diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes. I quit taking it ( with her blessing) after my tolerance for cold weather was greatly reduced . I can tolerate cold much better now though at 70 years of age may never again handle freezing weather in a wool shirt like in my younger days

Fish oil was linked to a higher risk of prostrate cancer in some recent study…something you may want to consider…

Good grief Menhaden!

That was a study done in 2013. Questioned by many. https://www.drweil.com/health-wellness/health-centers/men/does-fish-oil-cause-prostate-cancer/

Yes, I agree. But then, has there ever been a study that wasn’t questioned by someone, for some biased or unbiased reason? I spent my entire career in research…btdt. My only point in mentioning it was that I read above somewhere “…no harm in taking extra…” or something to that effect…well…that may, or may not, be true…

Speaking only for myself, I once did take fish oil. As an older guy…after I heard a possible prostrate cancer risk I stopped taking it. Phooey on all urban-myth supported voodoo supplements…I’ve seen too many come and go in the last 45 years. Everyone believes in something. I believe I’ll eat a good diet, get lots of exercise…and leave it at that. Either I’ll live to be 99 like most of my older relatives…or I won’t.

Of course…if anyone chooses to take supplements…makes no difference to me. If they perceive some benefit…go for it. If nothing else it keeps people employed.

I have also tried many different supplements (fish oil-yuck) and diets over the years but still I found myself at 47, overweight, becoming arthritic, and just not feeling great. I was having a hard time sitting for longer than a half hour in my kayak because of the horrible pain coming from my leg up my lower back. Then one day my brother sent me a video of a Doctor giving a lecture to the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii on how humans are really Frugivores. Really, I don’t think that’s what they taught us in school?

Long story short I have been doing mostly a Fruit diet (80%) for almost 2 years. The results have been astounding! My wife and I have lost a ton of weight (back to what we weighed in college) and are almost pain free.
It’s truly amazing how far we have gotten away from the food we are designed to eat. We don’t need to squeeze the liver of a deep cold water fish to obtain good health☺ We are frugivores and should be eating lots of fruits (and veggies; the succulent variety) yet we have been conditioned to eat dead animals, milk not from our species, and mucus forming grains.
