2010 FFS movies
Here are some movies I took at the 2010 FFS event. Hope you enjoy them.

Creekin Freestyle
Glad to hear that this will be running… but here’s a plea: can some planning go into filming and uploading this with a view to “applied” quietwater technique taking a higher profile?
We would like to do some video
of the classes and post “teaching” clips. It’s simply a matter of finding the time and people to do it. Possibly with the more relaxed schedule at FFS this year as well as AFS and likely at MFS we’ll get it done.

Ken
Thanks for posting those videos from last year’s FFS. For those who may not be aware, freestyle is done in tandem as well as solo canoes. The 3rd video posted is of Bob and Elaine Mravetz doing a tandem routine. Tandems have the advantage of more momentum and a stern paddler to counter balance the bow paddler. They have the added difficulty of coordinating the paddle work and body movements of the two paddlers. There will be tandem instruction available at FFS.
Some updated Information
is now posted on the freestyle website.
The updates include a Schedule, a Class Description page and an Announcer Form for the Giant Slalom. It all on the Florida Freestyle Symposium link at www.freestylecanoeing.com .

Slalom?
Is this a standard course that we could set up on our own for a little pre-symposium practice?
Can Laura PDF the course
for wenonah rider and also ME…I have five buoy courses in my library but am confused as to which one you will be doing.
Thx John for the suggestion though the ice advances…
It would be cheating to practice
on the precise course we will be using. We don’t want to give the southerners (those with soft water) an advantage. Besides I don’t even know what it will be yet.
This is Mark Molina’s project and although he gave me an example, it may well change. What I can tell you is that the moves will all be pretty basic. Anyone attending FFS should be able to participate. Additionally they will all be real world moves such as you might use on a real stream. There will not be any XR Christies.
Sorry but that’s all the hints you get, at least for now.

Tandem Classes
After receiving an inquiry the other day, it occurred to me that many folks don’t realize that we offer tandem classes at the freestyle symposiums.
Tandem classes are listed as a single category on the registration materials. We keep the class sizes small and customize the instruction to the skill levels and desires of the participants. Our Tandem instructors are the best in the business. The Mravetze’s and the Lindabury’s are both multiple time gold medal teams.
If tandem is your desire, bring a partner and join the fun.

Early Registration Discount
I’d like to remind everyone that there is a $25.00 early registration discount for all registrations RECEIVED before December 31st. Register early and save a few dollars. You’ll also make my job a little easier.

If you are not sure this is useful
for you, check out the classes. There is an AMAZING array of afternoon clinics to improve every aspect of your canoeing. Slalom, sit and switch are but a few of the many topics.
Also note the boat maintenance clinics!
That the menu is fantastic does not hurt one iota.
Meals/Menu
I’ve received some questions about the menu, specifically whether it was necessary to choose a particular entree for each meal.
I spoke with the caterer last week and it is not necessary to pick specific entrees. All meals will be served buffet style and all available entrees will be on the table.

At the risk of getting a bit commercial
Last year several symposium participants were hoping to buy paddles only to find that I didn’t have one of the correct size. I carry only a limited inventory, most being made to order. If you think you may want to purchase a paddle at FFS, let me know ASAP what size you require. I’m building up some inventory now and will make sure I have the right stuff with me. Since these will be “stock” paddles, there will be no obligation. It just helps me to be prepared and avoids disappointment.

Missed Pagayeur
one of the Southern Gentlemen!
He hasn’t OFFICIALLY registered yet
though I do have it on good authority that he’ll be there. I for one will be sorely disappointed if he’s not. I planned on updating the list as other registrations arrived.
Happy New Year John

Publicity Posters
We now have publicity posters for FFS 2011. I would appreciate everyone’s help in promoting the event. If you are able to deliver/post these at your local paddling shop or other suitable location, I would greatly appreciate it. Anyone able to help in this effort, please email me directly at dogpaddle@frontiernet.net and I’ll email the files directly to you.
