let me be clear
99 percent of the boaters on this lake are great people its the bad ones that i worry will hit me if they flip me i can swim if they hit me im screwed .as i said before this town isnt for those who bike or walk or are not with motors lol a few years ago a car jumped the curb came on the grass and almost hit me.
Can’t take it huh Salty ?
but it is perfectly Ok for you to dish it out like you did to the OP, instead of giving him some encouraging words.

Where?
On the lake are you at? Find a cove system that is a No Wake zone. Only safe place on Lanier. Harder since you don’t drive, but if you are near Balus Creek, the entire system up into the creek itself is no wake. Big Creek as well.
thats what i did tonight
just hug the shorline and went to some park that had tennis courts then went way back in the wooded area its so weird becuase on google maps they took pic in are drought and according to it there is no water where i went no water even close to where i was
i just ignore salty
im sure he is a great guy but i find it to be better for my self to ignore post like his.life is to short
just looked it up
went to longwood park tonight
I watched the vid
and did not see another craft on the water. So what was he doing wrong??
Good place…
…during the drought they dredged the end of the cove so they could open up access to it as that is the end of the greenway walking trails from downtown to the lake. If you zoom in on the google sat photo, you can see the damn they constructed so they could get further out into the cove.
thats cool
i went way back there last night went pass the sidewalk for sure
With traffic like that choose other time
to go paddle, if suitable. Wheels will give you freedom to find other waters… I know fuel is the thing often governing, but finding paddling takes planning…IME.
honestly, I bring an orange flag to fly
and attach inside the stern somewhere. Did this on a busy lake in MA…NEVER had any problems, in fact many times I would’ve enjoyed some heavy-duty waves…but so many boaters would slow down and wave…

well I was commenting on jackl
Although he harps on his point excessively I take salty seriously.

You might note that slushpaddler
likes to hide with out posting a profile.
He has been jeolous of my life style ever since he came on P-net, and just loves to take jabs at me at every occasion he can.
I have a feeling he might be Salty’s twin brother

Power boaters
New to this format so please bear with me.
This has been an interesting read so far, I Googled this problem this morning to see how other people are handling it.
We are lucky, the main lake we go on has absolutely wonderful and courteous people.
However; this weekend we encountered a bowl full of teen/20’s who thought they owned the lake.
My own teenage son had paddled ahead and was separated from us.
Around the bend came this speeding tub from Romper Room full of retards, (yes this is the correct term because they are retarded in social and mental development) going anywhere from 40-50mph heading straight for my son.
At first we started waving and hollering and they simply did not slow down. It had all the appearances for a few seconds that they were going to kill my son in front of my very eyes.
We switched from waving and hollering to some more meaningful hand gestures and sentence enhancers.
This only made things worse, they sped up and headed for us.
Now, I’m an old woman. But I must have some ancient warrior blood in me because at that moment my thoughts turned to homicidal mania.
To make things worse, this floating box of scum suckers decided they weren’t done with their fun and they went to the end of the lake and came back for some more.
I’ve been sucking on Hall’s cough drops for days now afterward due to the colorful vocalizations I issued to that party.
We learned a lot that day. We learned that by and large most people are very nice regardless of color, gender or age. Financial status seems to be a key factor in breeding complete @$$holes.
1). Bring your cell phone with and a boat horn.
2). PHOTOGRAPH AND RECORD this type of activity.
3). GET THEIR BOAT NUMBER. It’s the only way you’ll ever be able to track them down.
As far as the actual waves/wakes that these boats make we have found that pontoons make the biggest waves. We are beginner/intermediate kayakers and didn't know that we were not suppose to be enjoying these big waves.

We take every opportunity we can to catch the waves these boats make because it really enhances our skills. We decided it was far better to ride these waves to learn how to handle the kayak than being out in the chop trying to learn in the wind. (We made that mistake after getting caught out on a 30 to 40 MPH windy day and paddled while going backwards for most of it)...ended up getting out and walking in the shallows to the landing.

Now, between the chop and the other boaters making big waves we like it. We've even started turning our sterns to the waves and surfing them which is a lot of fun.

Lots to learn, thank you for all this information.

We absolutely LOVE kayaking, my opinion is it is the single greatest exercise and family sport out there.
fighting on the thread
P.S. I was a Hospice RN for quite a few years. I learned many valuable lessons while dealing with terminally ill and dying people each day and the main thing I learned is that life is TOO SHORT FOR ALL THIS FIGHTING.
Remove the chip on your shoulder it limits your view of the world.
There is always going to be someone with more expensive equipment, newer/fancier equipment/latest brand name than you.
I use to downhill ski, (LOVE that) and if you want to hang around a bunch of vain, pretentious, judgemental people go skiing.
The equipment and clothing they all thought was top notch back in 1980 is worthless and old now.
There is ALWAYS going to be someone with more or with less experience than you. Always.
There were people out on the slope that thought they were Olympic caliber skiers and then my ex husband would get on the slope and people would stop skiing just to watch him; he was that good.
Life is to be lived. Compete with yourself. Enjoy the ride because it's going to be over sooner than you think.
40 years from now; hell, 5 years from now, NO ONE WILL CARE that you had the newest paddle on the lake. But they will care how you treated them. Leave them with a smile.
Thank you, I'll be here all week. Tip your server.
Peace.
