Fontanna Lake

Our plan
is to be at Fontana Village campground 11/17. We then plan to paddle up to Eagle Creek for an overnight trip, if weather permits this. Neither of us have a 4 season tent and don’t want to freeze our a-- off plus we will have kids along and we want them to be comfortable and enjoy the trip as well. If the weather is nice, above freezing, we’ll be spending a night somewhere along Eagle Creek.

Water level?
Heard it’s real low.

Does anyone know for sure if it’s to low to paddle?

Thanks

Fontana Lake level
I was there about a week ago and had no problems. There’s plenty of water even though 40-50 feet of shoreline is exposed. If you’re camping at Eagle Creek you should be able to put in at Fontana Marina or Cable Cove with ease.

Whty don’t you stay at Fontana Village.
They have accomodations to fit all budgets. The campground is completely unregulated and can be a rowdy place at times. It is also right on the river and can get pretty cool at night.

Thought about it, but.
We will be taking a RV’s to stay in most of the time. Fontana Village CG doesn’t have sewer hook up and we would have to go a mile to the dump station to empty the waste tanks. With wives and kids the gray tanks would have to be emptied every other day and we plan on staying up there about a week, so full hook ups at Tumbling Waters will be easier on us. We still should be close enough that we can go over to Fontana Lake and paddle up Eagle Creek for an overnight trip with the kids while the wives stay in the RV’s. Been looking at the weather there too, and with the temp’s in the 30’s at night we , may end up canceling the overnight part of the canoe trip. Neither of us have a 4 season tent, and all our sleeping bags are decent, but not below 0, which at night in a tent in the 30’s would probably feel like 0 degree. I do have a Coleman Focus V LP heater, but wouldn’t use it all night, though it may be tempting. The overnight trip we may just wait and see on it, but still want to get some paddling in.

Thanks
