GoToob, mixed reviews
On Amazon the reviews are pretty mixed on GoToobs. Major complaint seems to be that thin liquids leak. Same at REI, mixed reviews. I checked out other small bottles, but it’s pretty much all Nalgene polyethelene. The catalog descriptions don’t mention food or “food-grade” in relation to polyethylene; rather, shampoos and such. I suppose for short-term use, I could go with polyethylene Nalgene bottles; might not hurt. But small glass spice bottles, nonreactive, are looking better and better if I can stop the leaks with some plastic wrap in the lid.
Jeez, maybe none of this matters. But I’ve never used nonstick pans because I don’t want to eat teflon. And I don’t microwave things in plastic containers.
Anyhow, I appreciate info here. Thanks!

viscosity is the key
If liquids are too thin they may leak. I am fine with putting these liquids in my go toob’s:
shampoo
conditioner
pesto sauce
butter (put in when soft and then it squeezes out at room temp)
peanut butter (soften in microwave and then put in w/ funnel)
raspberry jam
I have about a dozen of the small nalgene ones that hold about an ounce. I use these for dry ingredients in my camp kitchen and also for maple syrup, honey and olive oil. They never leak. With liquids that thin, you don’t need a squeeze tube style like the gotoob. Which is a good thing as the poly is harder and you can’t squeeze the ingredients out therefore things like butter/jam/pb won’t work in these.
I use the old nalgene that have BPA for dry ingredients like rice, oatmeal and such. Try and avoid wet products in them. I don’t get too fussy about it as the BPA’s are still in the linings of canned products.
Check out lab safety supply

Seems an unlikely place, but they have nalgene and other food grades in all sorts of sizes and shapes, at great prices.
more info, more thanks!
Suz and Reef, appreciate the link and the information about what liquids go in what containers.
I’ll mention that I tried DaveH’s tip to put a square of plastic wrap inside the lid of a container to make it waterproof. And doggone if it didn’t work perfectly! No leak. So I’ll have several good options now, thanks to you guys.
