Because it is advantageous for boats
to slide over things, I don’t see why mixing in sand would be helpful.



Considering the outstanding wear resistance I am getting from S-glass and epoxy, plus the structural reinforcement, I don’t fancy trying sand as a replacement for S-glass. I could add colloidal silica to the epoxy I use to lay on the S-glass, but it seems like gilding the lily.



Have you applied glass cloth with epoxy, or just with gelcoat?



As for sand, how would one know what sort of coating one’s source of sand has, and how compatible that coating is with epoxy?



You’ve got a big sales job coming if you want people to mix sand with resin for keel strips. You say it’s great, but I see no reason whatsoever why it should be better than S-glass or even E-glass and epoxy. Claims are claims. How are you going to supply evidence?
