I’m not familiar with the Guideboat and assumed it was a canoe. I’ve paddled a few antique Rushton Adirondack Guideboats at WCHA gatherings. Is yours similar to these?
I agree with you that section shape is very important in parallel or quartering waves. A rounder shape offers more secondary stability than a flat bottom. Since wind is more or less perpendicular to waves I wonder how running parallel to waves, thus perpendicular to the wind helps a paddler.

A C1 is a solo canoe
where K1 is a single Kayak.

have found their way into recreational use too.
