Have You Ever Needed a Spare Paddle?

New Video…
…for those who prefer gurgles and wind to Nickel Creek

nice ps
…and I liked the picture of you with board in hand, looked like a southern-style greenland paddler!

Spare Paddle
isnt the whole point of a spare paddle that you have a reason to spend some cash on a new sexy paddle?

When I look a G_K with that board…
… I have to wonder what kind of former SEAL doesn’t carry a knife or other bladed tool that would let him carve a loom or at least a couple hand hold areas to improve the function a bit…

A bit more adapting and a little less overcoming maybe? A Boy Scout could manage that!

Look deeper my friend

Gotcha!

You underestimated this Eagle Scout and SEAL. I did just as you suggested and such a neat job you don't notice it in the other picture. Here is an earlier picture of the work.

The knife was a 3 1/4" 2 blade Old Timer.

I decided not to carve a full fledged GP but did just enough to get the job done.

Yes. I left mine at the wrong end of
the car shuttle for the river trip and needed to borrow a friend’s spare. I hope that I never make that mistake again.

Not me…yet, but a friend needed…
…my spare once. I usually paddle with my full length GP, and keep a short (storm) GP on deck as my spare (and to just switch between the two for fun and practice). One day while paddling with a friend through some sea caves, he broke his only paddle while smashing into a cave wall as the swell caught him by surprise. He carried no spare, and since he didn’t tell me about this before we met at the put-in, I didn’t bring along an extra spare for him.

He had never used a GP before, so to make things easier for him, I gave him my full length paddle, and I used the short paddle for the rest of the day (it was actually perfect for paddling through the sometimes narrow caves). After we left the caves and paddled around on the open water for a while, he really got to like the GP, so now he’s a GP convert as well!

Nothing personal…

...I just found that the rapid tempo of the music didn't suit the pace of the video and I would have preferred to hear the paddler's comments, sounds of the water, etc. Perhaps "distracting" is a better description than " annoying". If the original audio quality was lacking, I understand why you went with music instead. Some of the best videos I've seen have used background music intersperses with sections of the original audio.

Regardless, it sure looked like fun and I enjoyed the footage.

dropping one,
losing one in surf, losing one in camp, having a preference for different types based o conditions, etc.

ever need a tow line?
Nope.

Do I carry one? You betcha.
