Help with decision

Thanks guys
I really appreciate the advice. I have a friend with a 17’ boat, not sure of the type or model yet, but he is going to let me try it out. I got the serial number from the Mohawk and sent it to Mohawk to see if they can provide me more info. I am gonna keep it in mind and if it still seems like a viable option, and does not sell, then I may go give it a test paddle. It appears, based on serial number, to have been made in 1977, but that’s a guess based on other serial numbers I have seen in the Mohawk forums.

More info
Turns out it’s a Blue Hole OCA, based on what Mohawk told me. Any thoughts on how a Blue Hole 16’ canoe would do for a guy my size?

It would be just fine for your size
The OCA is a classic. I had the same boat in 17 feet. Built like a tank and pretty good all 'round canoe. It’ll pretty much do whatever you want but excel at nothing in particular. Hopefully the price is right and the boat is in good shape.

Blue Hole OCA
The OCA will handle your weight and that of another person just fine. It is a big, wide, deep canoe with ends that stick high up out of the water so it will have plenty of carrying capacity and will be dry.

It will also be heavy (70 pounds plus) and no speed demon and will present a lot of freeboard to the wind when paddling flat water. At 35" wide it will probably be a bit difficult even for someone of your height to do cross strokes while paddling solo.

Given your stated intentions it is probably a pretty decent boat for you as long as you don’t mind the weight and don’t want to go too fast or too far on flat water.
