How to identify Poison Ivy

different method
the one I heard was ingesting infinitesimal sized amounts over a period of time. When I lived in Mendocino some folks mentioned it but of course no one could verify it. Of course the idea was attributed to some native American lore.

Given the consequences of internal reaction I wouldn’t want to attempt it.

too bad there isn’t a similar one for Poison Oak.

Rhus Radicans
Down here in La. I’ve seen poison ivy vines climb up high in trees and become a thick woody stem with leaves up to 6 inches across or even larger. Around here most folks from an early age learn to identify it. P.I. is particularly hazardous when burning brush or in forest fires. Breathing it’s smoke can damage the lungs. There actually is an innoculation which forest fire fighters get to prevent this. The culprit is Rhus Oil which will adhere to just about anything and is carried by smoke. It grows in wide areas of southern woods as a ground cover and can blanket large sections. Only plus is that it can be a beautiful red color in the Autumn.
