It might be a small world, but 32 years ago, I was let go by a great company that I was at for number of years. Someone told me to drive by any place where I thoughtI’d be a good fit. LOOK IN THE EMOPLYEE PARKING LOT…If the cars are decent to nice, it is probably a good place to work…I retired from there after 27 years…Everybody had good transportation
Back:
7 days a week? My mother taught college healthcare back before computers and she didn’t have to work 7 days a week. I could help her grade papers sometimes, but that was multiple choice questions.
You telling us that teachers aren’t using computers?
Their students also aren’t using computers?
Their lesson plans are already made out…on computers?
They used to be in books and there was a teachers copy where the answers were.
You trying to tell me that teachers write out their own lesson plans? Type in “8th grade math lesson plan” and see what you come up with.
Those come down from the districts, no?
A school day is, say 8hrs. Teacher doesn’t teach for 8 hours. I’d guess 4 classes. That’s 4 hours a day. What does he do for the other 3-4 hours?
And teacher needs to study at night to teach 8th graders math? Art? phy ed? If so, they need to be fired as they are in waaaay over their head.
Relatedly, the teachers unions also protect incompetent teachers. Remember those teachers who couldn’t pass their own student tests?
A school year in the us commonly is 180 days. That’s a half a year.
They don’t work a full workday for 180days of work, according to their union contracts. That’s part time, seasonal work.
“in service” days are usually when people do work around their house from my experiences. I could set my clock by my neighbor when he’d leave for school and come back. Clockwork. Fishing/hunting time he had his boat/truck ready so by 3:40, he was pulling out of his driveway. Another one, he was a teacher in CA and when his wife came to denver for a year of med training, he came with her. He lived in denver a year, then went back to his teaching at his same desk, same school, the following year. Per union rules, he had that right, a right to take a year off, then come back to his same job.
The biggest problem with teachers is dating. Why? Few other occupations have as much time off as they do. Firefighters are like that too (but no summers off or holidays), so teachers marrying teachers is a good thing as they can do things together.
And they get paid full time wages and benefit packages.
If you/your family have a hard time handling full time paychecks not coming bimonthly, can’t you opt for that? I do believe so, but if not, maybe get some financial planning assistance.
Younger people wanting to enter teaching are being fked over by the older ones. The older ones retire to lock in their retirement pay and benefit packages, then come back to work the next fall in the same room at the same desk as a “new employee”. This locks out the younger college grads trying to get into teaching.
They should have it like the teamsters do–you can retire, but if you do, you can’t drive truck.
One of the tricks/lies teachers do is to not include their benefit package in their compensation. Usually it can be anywhere from 25-50%. Teachers would scream at me because I did that and they said doing it that way was wrong.
So I told them, if they aren’t worth any money, then why do taxpayers have to pay for them? And also, then they should just reject the retirement and medical packages, then buy their own.
Yeah, we know how that went.
WL, I don’t think you’re being very honest here.
When people make such big moves, it’s great to have a very positive outlook on things as that’s a lot of change. CBC had a decent write up on canadian migration to the usa. Their govt really hosed them on the wu han scamdemic.
One thing good for canada is that they have immigration laws (for themselves) and enforce them. They are smart as if not, people would go there for their “free healthcare”.
What’s surprising to me was the amount of canadians who go to cuba for vacations.
Almost double more females than male canadians are coming to the usa. Not sure what that means.

Canadians do have the option to pay for private insurance enhancement coverage if they prefer, to cover some procedures for which there may be long waits or obstacles for the nationwide free system.[end willowleaf]
What procedures are you talking about in canada that has long waits?
IIRC, pittsburg has more MRI machines than all of canada.
Isn’t canada a good place for healthcare unless you’re too sick/ill? Isnt’ this why a lot of canadians who can afford it, come to the usa for their procedures?
“the massively costly and inefficient US system”
Can you explain why the usa’s healthcare is more costly?
In the usa, higher costs are partially driven by defensive medical practices, doctors fearing being sued.
In canada, it’s very expensive for someone to sue a doc of malpractice isn’t it?
I hope to see some comments from you supporting the current pres of the usa as he did and will continue to bring pharma costs down. Big pharma just outright buys politicians in the usa (see wu han example as just one).
The usa also has a higher percentage of inherintly unhealthy people than canada does. We have more of a certain demographic that leads in obesity, early death, diabetes, etc. And they are ironically covered by “free healthcare”, aka medicaid, aka medical insurance they did not and will not pay for. I don’t know a resolution for that other than to get them to eat better and live healthier, but don’t know how to get them to do those.
Soc Security/medicare/medcaid are RIFE with fraud. Like the voter rolls, they need to be audited to make sure dead people aren’t collecting money. Or illegals.
Lots can be done in the usa.
“the universal FREE systems that EVERY OTHER FIRST WORLD INDUSTRIALIZED NATION offers to their citizens”
Do you work for free? Will you sell your product for free? etc.
There is no such thing as “free” unless one is stealing from another person.
Do you push for teachers/admins to drastically lower their salaries and benefit packages? The costs of ‘education’ has exponentially skyrocketed, inverse of the quality of their education.
If doctors should work for free, certainly teachers should too.
“When we learned the drug regimen my mother’s cancer doc prescribed for her would cost us over $7000 for a 2 week course”
Didn’t you say your mother was a teacher?
Why does she not have health insurance? Was it experimental? My wife died of cancer, she was on medicare, and it paid for almost all of it, like 500 grand worth. She had deductibles and copays, but relative to insurance, it was very reasonable.
I don’t understand a lot of the things you say sometimes.
Aren’t you some very high dollar wage earner in the electrical field?
You cannot pay for decent healthcare insurance?
Or you won’t? You want others to pay for it so to you it’ll be FREE?
And if you’re as in demand, valuable employee as you bragged on, why do you even pay for your healthcare insurance at all?
So much of what you post doesn’t make sense.
