Is an ocean cockpit a bad idea for a relative beginner?

You’d definitely need to build your own skin-on-frame!

Further update: spouse and I have both been practicing getting in and out of the ocean cockpit. It’s fine, a somewhat challenging skill we can learn, exactly as Bnystrom said in 2019 when I started this thread.

The important part is, this boat fits me so much better than the Montauk. I remember when I first got the Montauk how sleek and small it felt. Now, next to the Tahe, I really, really notice the oodles of excess space around my hips and above my thighs.

Once paddling the Tahe I can much more easily rotate my torso since I’m not reaching out to avoid the sides of the boat. It feels more stable to me, riding lower in the water.

In short, I like it and hope to make the appropriate accommodations in the boat and my skills in order to be able to use it with ease.
