I have one as well clipped onto my PDF shoulder strap. The problem is they are not bright enough for any kind of real nav light. And to switch them to SOS flasher mode (not really a strobe) you need to reverse the coin cell batteries - not something I would do on the water.

Get underwater lighting like is the rage on powerboats. Lol
If it’s visibility to others, I use a 360 white light and wear a headlamp that I can turn on when a craft approaches.
If it’s illumination you need to see a good headlamp will allow you to look around without turning the boat. I’ve generally found paddling the darkness easier then using a light but we do use one on rivers. Just be sure it’s on the bow, otherwise it will cast a shadow from the front of the boat
