I think the “Classic” is a better choice for you, with your dog companion. I had thought about the Classic, wondering whether I would ever have my toddler granddaughter with me. Then I realized that I would be buying based on fantasizing/wishful thinking. The New Trick feels stable to me but I would not be so sure were another small person or dog jump in with me, moving around.

The Hornbeck comes with adjustable footpegs. Won’t be a problem for you longer inseam.

That sliding seat looks really nice.

Yes it slides with little effort, but doesn’t “migrate” when you don’t want it to. Lmk if you want more pics/boat details, it’s a fantastic light solo for small to medium paddlers

Did you happen to notice that a Hornbeck New Trick 14 just showed up in the classifieds on this site?

Thanks - will do! I have a SUP on order that should finally be here this Winter, and I just bought a kayak so I’ll probably hold off just a bit on a canoe, to let my wallet recover. But I do so love the idea of canoeing with my sweet boy.

I’d be very tempted if it was anywhere near me.

You won’t go wrong with a Hornbeck. Decide what you think are your best options, then discuss on the phone with Josh, who is the CEO. He really knows his stuff and will advise you well.
