Long kayak on a short bar spread

williamrs
some of the races we have been to here in texas have racers show up in 21 to 40+ boats.

I’ve seen a couple of setups that have removeable racks mounted on the bumpers of shorter cars. Well not the bumpers, rather the mounts have been attached to the vehicle frame and come out far enough to clear the bumper for the removeable part to mate to the mounts.

Long kayak
We have a Necky Nootka Plus in the carbon composite layup. It’s about 22.5’ long. We carry it on a Honda Element with Yakima racks on the top of the vehicle (saddles in front, rollers in back) then have a hitch-mounted Yakima Dry Dock with a pair of rollers on it. Strap the kayak to the bars, then tie down front & rear. We haven’t gone very far with it (it’s about 3.5 miles to the beach), but the system works very well. We used the same system to transport a Current Designs Crosswind (about 17-18’ poly) for a 4+ hour trip & it worked out great.

Similiar question
but somewhat off topic. Is a 36" spread using yakima hullraisers enough for a 12’ WS Tsunami 120?

Thanks
