thanks for all the info guys, wether it was detailed sceince or short and sweet recommendations.
My original choice of the inexpensive brunton was largely based on the fact that it was waterproof, however i am now more likely to consider the 6X30 Brunton Eterna.
It seems it might be money well spent. Now i just need to find a way to purchase one up here in ontario canada for that 100 dollar ebay price. (they run almost 200 plus tax here at canadian tire store)
I might dry bag it in my pfd. Seems a lot of things advertised as waterproof, arent really that waterproof.
