Multi-day touring/flatwater instruction sought

I’ll second Cape Breton, one of my favorite places on earth, although I didn’t take any paddling classes there.

When starting out, I took a week-long coastal paddling course at the Wooden Boat School in Brooklin, Maine. I highly recommend it, it was well done in a great location. It attracts a nice range of people, plus there will be boat building going on while you’re there, which is fun to watch. It looks like they have two courses running this summer:

A week of Maine kayaking in July when DC is insufferable? Sign me up. I hadn’t found this place yet. Thank you.

Two years after the course at Wooden Boat, I spent a week in Oregon building my own kayak, it will pull you in…

here’s an opportunity about 5 hours away from you

intro to ww- works out to be a level 2 and 3 aca class skills wise- you can visit the aca’s website to see what that includes

class is conducted on class II whitewater, focus is on the basics- paddling, eddy turns, peel outs, ferrying etc.

price is good, folks are friendly

I’ll vouch for the organizer

An option if you want an urban and suburban experience would be to hire instructors for part of each day on the Hudson River and in New York Harbor. Then you would paddle on your own, or do non-paddling stuff, the rest of the day. I can suggest details if this idea appeals. Not a cheap option, though.

Take a longer look at stuff run by Pinnepad Kayak, as mentioned by Nate Hanson. It is a day’s drive for you just to get there, but plenty worth it.

Thanks Celia. (Searching “Pinniped Kayak” will work better). www.pinnipedkayak.com

Oops so much for my spelling! And I was so good at it before the white accumulated up top.
