I think you are referring to the Lazerbrite Light Stick (red/green)for use on the bow. The set retails for $20 including the batteries.
It has two attachment points by each light head. I use a key chain D-Ring on either side to temporarily connect the unit to my kayak bow perimeter line.

- not really at all. Not much issue on aft deck pole set up either (if you don’t look aft a lot).
It’s easy to set lights up so they don’t bother you. The problems arise with groups. Being close others lights can get you.
These are bright enough to be seen at a distance (and read by held close) but are not bright like a spotlight or flashlight. More like a glow stick on steroids. Obviously The darker it is the brighter they seem. In some of the well lit urban areas I paddle they don’t seem bright at all (but then neither do the running lights on the 100+ ft yachts!).
