Northern Michigan camping suggestions???

I don’t remember a beach
but most of the camp sites has nice grassy slopes right to the waters edge. My daughter and I swam and snorkeled right off of our camp for quiet a few hours. And the water is cold so just be prepared for that.

Alright…
I will take that into consideration. I don’t mind the cold water much and neither does the wife. The little one would swim in a mud puddle if given the chance. Thanks

Rifle River
Recent trips to Rifle River SP have been in October when we were practically alone. We stayed at the primitave campground and were easy walking distance to a couple of the lakes. Like most SP’s it can get crowded during the summer. The lakes there are fun to paddle, but I don’t know about the river.

RE Craig Lake
My Brother in Law and his wife just moved to Marquette, so we are planning a trip up there with them in August. We are going to bring a 1yo and almost 3yo. Wilderness camping with kids takes some patience and flexibility (just like everything else with kids). Extra adults help also.

With a newborn in July last summer we didn’t get to do any wilderness canoe trips last summer. The older one is itching to get out. He wakes up in the morning and asks if we can go camping today, then for breakfast.

I second Sleeping Bear
Variety of campsites (state forest=rustic, national lakeshore=a bit less rustic), lots of attractions, great beach, huge dunes, plenty of inland lakes, rivers and fishing.

Wouldn’t you know it
We decided that Kingston Lake campground would be the destination this summer. Too bad it’s closed this year so they can fix the roads. Back to the drawing board. I’m starting to think I may be making this harder than it should be…

if you’re stuck on pictured rocks…
Try 12 mile beach to the east, or miner’s castle campground to the west. I believe both are open this year.

Little Beaver Lake Campground???
Any one have any experience here? Were going to be canoeing so the big water is not an option for us. I like paddling around the small lakes seeing wat they have to offer and Little Beaver and Big Beaver look kind of promising… Any thoughts?
