I bought this model new in 1991. I have used it in open lakes and up to Class II rapids without any issues. I recently did a canoe trip of 52 miles on the Yadkin River in Central North Carolina. I’m 6ft, 180lbs and my paddling partner for this trip is 5’11", 275lbs. We carried around 250lbs of camping gear/food etc. This canoe handles well for this kind of river trip. We went thru open/slow area’s and Class II rapids. My paddling partner has limited experince. We only had one mishap and that was due to his inexperince. We had to zig zag thru one set of rapids to avoid the rocks, we did not make the last turn. This is a great beginner canoe. I have used it every season as a solo and tandem canoe. The size is such that it can go both ways.
