one lure

Try a Hofmann
I’ve caught just about everything from bluegills to channel cats & bass on a small spoon by Hofmann Lures. It has a small stinger hook so bluegills can get their small mouths hooked. Problem is that the tackle shop sold all they had and I’ve not been able to find any. Even wrote & called the company with no luck. I have 2 left.

Floating Rapala
One lure for all fish? A floating Rapala, 6", perch or blue. It can be worked almost on top, walk the dog. It can be trolled or cranked down to about 3’ deep. If you want to go deeper just add some weight.

Zara Spook Puppy
Definitely a Zara Spook Puppy. It draws VIOLENT topwater strikes from angry river run Smallies. Dont give up after just a few casts on a likely spot. It sometimes takes 10-15 repeated casts and just when you think you have scared every fish within a quarter mile … BOOOOM!

Northern Pike think they are tasty also but I have had more luck with the larger spook.

Anyone Fly Fishing from A KAYAK???
Am I crazy or… has anyone tried flyfishing from a KAYAK?

Danged Rapala again…
…so much for my spinner or spoon. The only thing I could get bit on today was the standard 3" black and silver Rapala. Got a couple of hits on a 4" Power Worm, but nothing like the Rapala.

That said, I still couldn’t ice-fish the Rap very well!

Lots of people fly fish
Do a search on fly fishing; lots of people do it, and plenty of posts.

I’ve had my fly rod out about a half-dozen times in the kayak, and it is a lot of fun. I use it on small lakes most often, but took it on the river just to try out. I tend to be a popper/streamer guy.

My Sister only uses on lure!
Honestly! She only fishes with a black plastic worm rigged texas style. It works in salt water and fresh and she often catches more than the rest of us. Bass, redfish. speckled trout and a host of other fisf will take it.

Sneeky Pete
Balsa wood, frog-like popper for a fly rod. Caught everything from largemouth bass to smallmouth, to trout, to sunnies to pickeral and perch! My “desert island” lure.

Only One Lure is Insane!!
But…I would choose a 4" hooktail worm in red/gold flakes from Fish Blaster Baits (available on line only). It has never failed to catch fish and all of Slick’s products are incredible and affordable. I have no affiliation with the company whatsoever; I found it at www.nybass.com, a fishing site I belong to. Just my honest opinion.

If I could choose a spare, it would definitely be a Zoom horny toad in white, followed by my Rapala green/orange jointed floating minnow.

Bead head wooly Bugger.

3 1/2" motor oil tube on 3/0 hook
rigged Texas style with 1/8 bullet weight and orange bead.

Tubes are my “go to”. I keep an assortment in the car with 1/8 and 1/4 weights. They can go top, bottom, be swum, worked slow, fast, jigged, whatever you need done.

If I can’t catch fish with that rig… Well, I guess then I’d just have to crack a beer. To be honest, though, I’d likely crack open the beer even if I was catching fish.

Hofmann Lures
We are the owners and tell everyone we are back. Lures will be ready for shipping in the spring of 2006.

Hofmann’s Lures
I’ve fished these lures since I was a kid.

None of you would be talking about those other lures if you had used a hoffman’s lure. The Mighty Mite and Specialist are fantastic in creeks and rivers.I don’t fly fish but I’ve been told the Frizz’s fly spoon is super. I’ve also been told the Ohio state record Largemouth Bass caught on a Flyrod was caught using this spoon 8.25 Lbs. WOW!!

I see according to a previous post that we will soon be able to buy these wonderful lures once again. Please keep us posted when and where they will be available.

One Lure
Now are you talking about one lure on each pole that you carry because I carry 2 rods in my holders that I installed behind the cockpit. If so I would carry an ultra light pole with a beetle spin with a black and chartreuse jig attached to it. And on 6’ spinnin rod I carry a medium sized white spinner bait. This is a deadly combo for the river that I fish most often where you can catch anything from crappie to large and small mouth bass and even walleye.

Florida, in the salt
3" gold glitter shadtail on a new penny Mission Fishin’ Jig. Between my charter guests, husband and I, we have caught 17 different species of saltwater fish as well as largemouth bass here on Lake Tarpon on that combination.

We call the combination the “Gold Champion” and agree that if we were stranded on an island could feed ourselves well with an unending supply.

Just my 2 cents,

Chrystal

freshwater, a Mann’s snakebait
saltwater, a Mann’s green mylar stretch 20+

Florida / saltwater / inshore
DOA shrimp. Either clear or glow for clear water, rootbeer for stained. Occasionally I’ll cheat a little and use some Carolina Lunker Sauce (shrimp flavor), but normally it’s not necessary. Everything eats shrimp …

Golden Guppy
Hands down … it is what my wife calls the “gold thing” … 1/4 red head jig with a gold metal flake swimming paddle tail. I have caught large mouth, small mouth, crappie, snook, redsfish, tarpon, trout, spanish mackerel, king fish, dolphin, wahoo, groupers, snappers and bonefish.

A publisher of the major texas fishing publication renamed it the “golden guppy” … I am not sure if I like the name.

Kastmaster
If I had to pick just one…

It would be a 1 oz green or blue mackerel Kastmaster. Single bucktail hook.

The Kastmaster really is the only lure I use surf casting. Of course, depending on the rod/reel and wind conditions I use it in sizes between 1 and 3 oz.
