Governed by certainly but not synonymous with. When someone asks you “how were the conditions?” You might reply and include your hull as part of the discussion to develop an understanding of what happened but they are not synonymous terms

The Oswego Canal looks like a nice flatware route, but if you want to go more east-west it means taking the Erie Canal too, and the large shallow Oneida Lake is kinda in the way. What to do: go along the edges early mornings with little wind, or try to get a shuttle around it?
There are kayak rentals on the lake so it must be nice at least some of the time. But I suppose crossings are altogether a different thing.
It’s a good route, I’ve always advised anyone making the crossing to do so early in the day. It has notoriously high levels of boat traffic during the summer on top of the weather conditions
