Opinions on Penobscot 16 please

Certainly not tippy…
…compared to a Wenonah Argosy, anyway.

oneidapaddler - is that “one ida paddler”? Oneida paddler?

Oneida
I live on Oneida Lake In Upstate NY and paddle on it every day.

A good friend twice won the downriver
cruising event on the Nantahala in a Penobscot. Previously he had competed in his own Old Town Tripper, which was drier, but the Penobscot was a good deal faster.

Got it
Was just curious, because Oneida is a pretty historical name around here too.

P16 is a good choice
A P16 will match your 220+ weight perfectly. Paddling from the center seat, or maybe a center seat move aft ~6-8" works well, as does a foam ww pedestal!..your weight is on the seat, but knees just touch kneepads. The mental image of something from the whitewater world often throws newbies for a loop, but imho it’s more comfortable than the wooden-cane/webbing stock seats. Just trim the rear portion to fit under the seat tightly…you can back up and up on the cane seat to stretch out whenever.($.01)

Work on your strokes and the P16 will track pretty well…just needs a few strokes to get the momentum going, unlike kevlar/carbon hulls requiring one pull.
