SOLAS tape isn’t a panacea
It's designed for use at night and does basically nothing other than add color under daylight conditions. The prismatic tape that Shirlann is describing is far superior to SOLAS tape in daylight. That's why I took the approach of adding color (fluorescent orange) and prismatic tape for daylight visibility and retro-reflective tape (like SOLAS) for nighttime use.
There is no single solution that's ideal under all conditions.

is what it’s sold as. Very shiny and sparkly.
I added some triangular pieces to my paddle, above the SOLAS tape. It now looks like a jack o’lantern.

Good to see an accurate post on this topic for a change. Solas tape only reflects straight back in the direction of the incident light source, so yes, it’s great at night IF the person you want to see you shines a light across the water, but in the daylight it’s just colored tape.
I only select paddles with brightly colored blades for this reason, when wet they flash much better than a black blade.
