Women who make the mark
Just not your parents’ generation. Great pictures, thanks for posting.
Great pictures Paula!
We were with a group that paddled out of Sitka in August and it rained pretty much the whole time we were out, too.
Did you rent or buy those feathercrafts? I’m seriously considering a Wisper.

Great trip Paula, suggestions…
Those were awesome photos, of what looks like a really great time. One or two suggestions for those of you looking forward to an Alaska trip.
Camping in the downdraft of glaciers will ensure that you have a chilly wind, and most often rain. There are enough of them so sometimes it is difficult not to be right in their path. Choose your routes to go see them, but try to camp in a cove that does not contain one.
Late May is a great time to come paddle, not as many tourists yet, and the rain/bug seasons are not in full swing. I was out for 10 days late May early June, and had only one day of rain, the rest was hot and dusty. The one caveat to that, is that you must come ready for very cool nights. Be dressed warm, as campfires are prohibited in a lot of places. There was even small patches of snow, but that was a great place to cool off beverages during the day.
Be careful paddling around icebergs, as we all know, 90 percent of them are under water, and they may roll at ANY time. One good way to prevent that, is to paddle around them at low tide, then they may rest on the bottom sand, and you still have enough water to slalom around them… Fun.
And of course it goes without saying ( I hope). DO NOT CLIMB on THEM !
I am lusting after those Feathercrafts, I really want one…then I can come see all of those other places the rest of you talk about.
Come have some paddling fun…

Tough boats!
My wife’s close friends did a huge long inside passage trip in Chile that took several months. They speak very highly of their Feathercraft!
dkr_xo I can see your point about
not camping near a glacier but there is nothing like camping near one that is calving. IMHO
Feathercrafts
Our leader already owned a feathercraft. The other four bought the Wispers for this trip. The red one was graciously lent to me by a friend. The gals who bought the wispers just love them! I love the coaming design. Very comfortable to lean on when stabilizing your buddy’s boat for “maneuvers”
Paula
we decided on PWS
for a number of reasons. Reading back on this thread has been a pleasure and I sent Donna an email. The book by Twardock is very helpful, but any other book recommendations would be welcome. We’ll be paddling 7/5-7/30. I can’t wait!!
