Spintail
I paddle an early one often since my brother has one and we swap. Grand champion of the high rocker types. Great boat for playing in a rip (as most high rockered boats are). Beautiful lines.
However very skeg dependant. God help you if your skeg gets jammed and you have to come in on a following sea. It's virtually uncontrollable and I don't care how good you think your skills are. So check that skeg before you launch.
The only thing I find a bit cautionary is: How often are you in the conditions that make the boat smile? If this is your MO then it's a good choice. But throughout the summer in New England you have to look for rough water because more often than not it's avarage seas and If you just want to go paddling in whatever's there, you have a bit sluggish boat with an enormous amount of rocker. I think that's why the Explorer has captured such a wide market. I like the boat for what it is however. I even like that jam prone old pully system skeg.
