Boom! Going to be a great weekend here in Illinois!
He beat most of the other Yankees there. I have no idea if his father visited there during the Civil War as part of the 17th Illinois Cavalry and recommended it.

The Union now marches in Okefenokee.
Midwest puts to test their chirp, “Okee dokee.”
And the ghost of Jeff Davis may find it absurd,
Ole’ Abe’s still migratin’ his flock of snowbirds.
And then, aren’t we all just a bunch of snowbird blowins, alighting from those wintry winds of disfavor that had pushed us out and along, finding our new spring of opportunity, of hope. Immigrants, I think we’re called. Till we’re just, “locals.”
Sort of like those damn Pan-American Geese! Guess they just got tired of spending all their time and money with only a bunch of loonies.
What a difference a couple of days make!. We were on the edge of the snowstorm; what fell was more of a nuisance and melted quickly. Weekend forecast is sun, 55F and 5-10 winds. Home water still all ice, but new launch site on Lake Michigan is open. It’s about four miles south of Wilderness State Park. I’ve never paddled the big lake so early in the season and am excited about the new territory.

Enjoy and be careful. Around here the snow is gone and it has been raining for a week. All the rivers are up, and the whitewater paddlers are happy. I plan to get out tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have stuff to do today
The snow is gone… In my dreams. The ice is gone . In my dreams… Its not even candled
Two of my kids and their families were camped at Lake Hartwell this weekend. The day started in the 40s but by afternoon it was in the 70s.
Just a beautiful day. Paddled a few miles with my 2 oldest grandsons ; I am way out of shape.
My daughter has a mutt puppy, mostly boxer, who weighs around 50 #. She does not like getting in water over her knees , but she scrambled onto the back of both the boys boats and seemed to enjoy the ride.Good sea legs obviously because she wouldn’t have been standing on the back deck of a Pungo otherwise.
Sure was a great opening day (thank you Marshall for introducing me to the 2-piece drysuit!!)
Water so clear you can see the (rocky) lake bed. Beautiful shoreline except for beachfront spam. Waugoshance Point far in the distance. Next trip will include a visit to Goose Bay, which is ten miles from my new launch site. Got back home to see nothing changed: lake still frozen except for a small path along the north shoreline. Back to the fun stuff tomorrow.
