Recommend a GPS for Rivers

Magellan Meridian
Color is the unit I have used for several years now when camping/hiking/etc. Being somewhat new to paddling, I’ve taken it out with me several times thus far with the same great results.

Why I like it? Typical battery life is 8-12 hours constant use; it is durably built; waterproof (within reason); floats; VERY light weight; has a color screen; base maps are preloaded - high def (address/POI/etc) maps are loadable onto an SD card and it uses readily available AA batteries (I always use rechargeable)

With the optional software available it works passably as an auto-routing car GPS.

Minuses: It is no longer being made (can be found for great prices on E-bay); It uses AA batteries - I’d prefer a rechargeable Li-ion - however being on a 3 day camp the AA’s and a couple spares keep it always available; It is NOT great for car use - I.E. small screen, no voice prompting, etc keep in mind it was not designed for car use; detail maps must be selected and loaded to the SD card from a CD/DVD.

No I don’t work for them  but in many years of wilderness hiking and camping in PA/WY/SD it has proved a valued tool in my packed gear!!
