Resolved: that the Mad River Explorer

Long Live the Mad River Explorer!
And her beautiful shallow V!

Slalom?
I’m having a hard time trying to picture someone soloing either of these boats on a slalom course. Do they set the gates wide enough for one of these boats to fit through?

resolved:
My issue with a Royalex Explorer was its oil canning. My new boat seemed just a little too flexible. I took it back to the dealer and sure enough, after pushing on the hulls of several Explorers mine was very flexible by comparision. We swapped for another new boat, problem solved. I really like my Explorer. It does exactly what I thought it would do. If I want a sleek fast boat, I take my CD Solstice GT. Discussing a canoe design as obsolete, to me, is like complaining that your Jeep doesn’t look and handle like a Corvette. Well gee, no kidding!

Good. You spent a lot, and you are
happy. But it still is not an exceptional boat. I did not say “obsolete,” I said “obsolescent.” A design that a competent designer can easily improve upon. Probably even some of the later MR designs are better all-around canoes than the Explorer.
