Roof racks and gas mileage

no kidding
nothing like scouring the grass between the car and garage for necessary bits and pieces. Or pulling it out of the garage to find the necessary bits and pieces that were in there a few months ago aren’t with the bars and towers.

I do
I leave my rack on at all times… but then again, I only drive in the same direction as the wind, so my MPG actually increases.

beam reach
Your fastest line. Also, it helps if your car is made of something billowy.

I just made a trailer, and am interested in finding out if it will save me fuel over having two canoes on the roof (likely less wind resistance, but more weight).

I started storing my racks with my canoes for mileage, noise, and people hitting their heads.

Cabin drone
Yakima is always off when not paddling.

Pyalmeida,

that little jesture brought me to tears.

Sticky Yakama pads
Call them, they will send you new ones, they know about the problem.

How much gas are we wasting
The Prius Hybrid we have drops from 46/47 to 32/36 with the Kayaks on top. The racks alone bring it down to 41/42.

I have been wondering the best way to lode them. Intuitively upside down on pads with the bow at the front of the car seems best. J hooks look like they would waste the most gas with and without the kayak.

Anyone done any wind tunnel testing?
