ROPE SKEGS VS. WIRE SKEGS???????

Boreal’s own explanation of their skeg
Our skeg system is equipped with a shock cord component which deploys the skeg when the dial is turned to lower the skeg. To address the issue of sand or small pebbles jamming the skeg in the up position, we have increased the width of the skeg box over what is the industry norm. This reduces the likelihood of material becoming wedged between the skeg blade and the inside of the box. It also facilitates water flow through the skeg box, which increases the opportunity for product to be swilled out as the kayak moves through the water.

Here I am spending time pondering something that I do not deal with…

I have a 500 and have converted to a Sealine rudder, so I am familiar with the cleat arrangement you have with the skeg. I can guess what you have to go through with adjusting for 25-50-75-100%, and I too have slippage problems with the clamcleat.

I wonder if you would have more fine-tunability with a CAM cleat? Here’s a link to the Duckworks page. This cleat has more aggressive teeth and would appear to grip more quickly than the clamcleat.

Just an idea.
