If it’s like a Valley
the rod will actually be a tube with a hole cut in it for the set screw on the slider knob to grip the wire through. You run the wire through the tube, and adjust the throw of the wire and slider to where you want them, and just tighten the screw on the slider when you’re happy with the adjustment.

Yes, it’s exactly as you described it and the skeg blade shape is closer to the Valley than the Impex one.
